On August 9, 2026, a training program for local agricultural machinery manufacturing workers was inaugurated at Alim Industries Limited in Sylhet, funded by the project "Strengthening Farm Machinery Research Activities for Mechanized Rice Cultivation (SFMRA)." The training will run through August 15, 2026.

 

The event is organized by the Farm Machinery and Postharvest Technology Division, Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI), Ministry of Agriculture, with overall support from Alim Industries Limited, Sylhet. A total of 40 workers from Alim Industries and 2 mechanics from BRRI are participating in the training.

 

During this 6-day program, participants are divided into two groups, with each group receiving 3 days of training. Throughout the session, participants will manufacture a total of 6 winnowers and 3 chopper machines of BRRI models. On the first day of training, classes on machine orientation, machine tools, and quality control were conducted by Dr. A. K. M. Saiful Islam, Project Director of the SFMRA Project and Chief Scientific Officer, Farm Machinery and Postharvest Technology Division, BRRI, Gazipur.

 

The primary objective of this training is to enhance skills related to safety and the working environment in agricultural machinery manufacturing, which will play a crucial role in expanding mechanized rice cultivation across the country.
